Now a charity, as a group we’ve supported people and organisations along the canal since 1982
We do not offer permanent moorings, but we very much welcome applications for our temporary mooring slots. You can email us on moorings@canalsinhackney.org
We play our part in the community along the Regents Canal and Hackney.
As well as working closely with Laburnum Boat Club and raising money for them through things like our CHUG members running the Hackney Half, we also run community events, such as hosting the circus boat, and hosting Christmas Carol fundraisers.
Over the years we’ve helped ensure the physical location in and around the basin remains healthy and well-used, and we actively maintain the site as our home.
Our most recent community event: Festive Carols 14th December ’24
Over 40 people joined in for festive treats and folksy beats with the London Sea Shanty Collective, raising over £340 for our canal friends Laburnum Boat Club as we served up hot chocolate and mulled wine, with special thanks to Tara, Charlotte, Val and Silvia for organising. Our History
It was first back in 1982 that previous members of CHUG began to look after Kingsland Basin and then to reimagine and plan how it could be a home for boaters.
We’ve seen our fair share of ups and downs, as well as buildings come down and go back up.
